Lissett Airfield

Novera received planning approval to build a wind farm on the former RAF Airfield near Lissett, south of Bridlington in February 2007 followed by full planning consent in July. Construction commented in December 2007 and we expect first generation before the end of 2008. Lissett Airfield wind farm has an installed capacity of 30MW and will generate enough renewable electricity for approximately 13,420 homes*, equivalent to 10% of the households in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

During the Second World War, Lissett was the base for 158 Squadron RAF, a Halifax bomber squadron. Adrian Hammond from the 158 Squadron Association commented: "Lissett Airfield, which formerly played an important role in protecting the country, could again be making an important contribution by fighting climate change." As a reminder of this time, Novera will erect a memorial and name the turbines after the Halifax bombers that flew from the Airfield.

* Based on 4,700kWh average annual household electricity consumption, recommended by BWEA and sourced from BERR (previously DTI) Digest of UK Energy Statistics, 2005).

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

A Community Liaison Forum has been established for Lissett Airfield which allows Novera to update the Council, Parish Councils and local tourism industry. Updates are provided each month on the construction and operation of the wind farm.

We have committed to establish a Community Trust Fund so that some of the revenue generated by our wind farm at Lissett Airfield can be used for local causes. This has been welcomed by the community local to Lissett Airfield.

If you would like to contact the Lissett project team with questions, concerns or suggestions for suitable projects for the Community Trust, please email LissettAirfield@noveraenergy.com.
