Longhirst

Novera is progressing proposals for a planning application for a wind farm, to be known as Longhirst Wind Farm, on farmland between the villages of Longhirst and Hebron, some 2km northwest of Pegswood, Northumberland.

Longhirst has been selected as a suitable site as it has a number of attributes which allow for the development of a wind farm with minimal environmental effects. As part of the site selection process, feasibility studies were undertaken and these indicated that Longhirst had excellent potential because of the exposed nature of the site which typically creates good wind conditions.

There are no environmental designations on the site which is owned by a single landowner and is dominated by managed farmland bordered by areas of woodland, shelter belts and commercial forestry plantation.

Initial design proposals are for up to six turbines with a blade tip height of up to 130m. Depending on turbine choice, the generation capacity could be up to 15 MW which would be enough power to supply over 8,000 homes*.
